    24-hour curfew imposed on Southern Kaduna due to violence

    A 24-hour curfew has been has been imposed on Southern Kaduna on Sunday, 20th February, 2017, after an attack by Fulani herdsmen, causing the death of about 14 indigenes of the state.

    The curfew took place immediately in Jema'a and Kaura local government as it was imposed by the State Security Council in the two local governments.

    The herdsmen were said to have invaded the two communities, destroying several lives and properties.


    Premium Times reports that while the attack on in Jema’a was repelled by security officials, 14 people were killed while many others were injured Ashim village, Takad chiefdom of Kaura local government area.
    The report said a statement by Samuel Aruwan, the spokesperson to Governor Nasir El-Rufai, said the curfew was imposed on the area to protect lives of the people and avoid further breakdown of law.
    While the curfew is on, only essential workers and those on humanitarian services are allowed movement by security agencies.
